Children and adolescents are particularly affected, as childhood obesity increases the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases later in life. To assess the fitness and health of children, many countries have set up monitoring systems that measure parameters such as body composition, endurance, strength and flexibility. Standardized school tests, such as the 6-minute run or the medicine ball throw, are used to assess performance but show significant differences depending on body weight.<br>An Austrian longitudinal study (2019\u20132022) showed that overweight children performed worse than children of normal weight in most tests, but achieved the best results in medicine ball throwing. This is explained by their greater muscle mass and better stability, which are promoted by higher body weight. Nevertheless, current assessment models often show bias in their results because they take absolute performance values into account but do not include anthropometric characteristics such as height and weight. This can lead to overweight children appearing to be fitter in certain disciplines, while smaller children are at a disadvantage in disciplines such as long jump.<br>To avoid these systematic errors, assessment systems should take height and weight into account when interpreting the results. This would enable a fairer and more accurate assessment of children&#8217;s fitness and improve health analysis in the long term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zusammenfassung<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Die weltweite Adipositas-Pandemie hat sich in den letzten Jahrzehnten erheblich versch\u00e4rft, insbesondere durch die COVID-19-Pandemie und ihre Einschr\u00e4nkungen. Besonders betroffen sind Kinder und Jugendliche, da kindliche Adipositas das Risiko f\u00fcr sp\u00e4tere Herz-Kreislauf-Erkrankungen erh\u00f6ht. Zur Erfassung der Fitness und Gesundheit von Kindern wurden in vielen L\u00e4ndern Monitoring-Systeme eingerichtet, die Parameter wie K\u00f6rperzusammensetzung, Ausdauer, Kraft und Flexibilit\u00e4t messen. Standardisierte Schultests, etwa der 6-Minuten-Lauf oder der Medizinballwurf, dienen der Leistungsbewertung, zeigen aber deutliche Unterschiede je nach K\u00f6rpergewicht.<br>Eine \u00f6sterreichische Langzeitstudie (2019\u20132022) ergab, dass \u00fcbergewichtige Kinder in den meisten Tests schlechter abschnitten als normalgewichtige, beim Medizinballwurf jedoch die besten Ergebnisse erzielten. Dies wird durch ihre gr\u00f6\u00dfere Muskelmasse und bessere Stabilit\u00e4t erkl\u00e4rt, die durch das h\u00f6here K\u00f6rpergewicht gef\u00f6rdert werden. Dennoch zeigen aktuelle Bewertungsmodelle oft verzerrte Ergebnisse, da sie absolute Leistungswerte ber\u00fccksichtigen, aber keine anthropometrischen Merkmale wie K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe und Gewicht einbeziehen. Dadurch erscheinen \u00fcbergewichtige Kinder in bestimmten Disziplinen f\u00e4lschlicherweise fitter, w\u00e4hrend kleinere Kinder etwa beim Weitsprung benachteiligt sind.<br>Um diese systematischen Fehler zu vermeiden, sollten Bewertungssysteme K\u00f6rpergr\u00f6\u00dfe und -gewicht in die Interpretation der Ergebnisse einflie\u00dfen lassen.
